Purple Line NOW! Board of Directors
2010 Executive Committee/Board Members
- President: Ralph Bennett
Professor Emeritus at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation; President of Bennett Frank McCarthy Architects, of Silver Spring, Maryland where he resides.
- Vice President: Nancy Soreng
An avid cyclists, Nancy was President of the Montgomery County League of Women Voters for 4 years until stepping down in 2008; currently serves as President of the League of Women Voters of Maryland, chairs the Montgomery County Charter Review Commission, and serves on the Policy Committee for Maryland Association of Non-Profit Organizations.
- Secretary: Michele Cornwell
Michele is the Senior Vice President of The Chevy Chase Land Company and has served on the Executive Committee since 2006.
- Treasurer: Wayne Phyillaier
Wayne is a retired engineer and resident of Woodside, Silver Spring. He is a past Chair and current Treasurer of the Coalition for the Capital Crescent Trail and maintains an independent blog Silver Spring Trails about Purple Line and Trail compatibility.
- At Large: Lisa Fadden
Lisa is Vice President for Public Affairs of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. The Purple Line has been and will continue to be a top priority of the Montgomery County Chamber because of its economic development implications as well as its importance in more efficiently connecting Montgomery and Prince George's counties.
- At Large: Craig Simpson
Craig was Secretary/Treasurer of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689 from 1993 to 2000, consulted with the Transit Employees Health and Welfare Plan in 2001 and with the Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL/CIO from 2002-03. He received a BA in Labor Studies from the National Labor College in 2004 and has been a consultant with Progressive Maryland and the AFL/CIO since then.
- Jim Clarke
A long time environmental activist and transportation consultant who resides in Rockville, Maryland.
- Mark Coles
The Maryland Business/Legislative representative to the Washington, DC Building and Construction Trades Council.
- Heather Dlhopolsky
An associate at Linowes and Blocher LLP, a Bethesda based law firm, and a member of the Board of the Greater Bethesda Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce.
- Andy Fellows
An environmental professional with Clean Water Action and the Mayor of the City of College Park. He also servied as Vice Chair of the Transportation Planning Board of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
- Tony Hausner
Retired from 26 years with Federal Medicare/Medicaid program with a Ph.D. in Social Psychology. Expert in quality of care, managed care, long term care. Community and political activist in many organizations over a 30 year period.
- Erwin Mack
A retired businessman and Director of the Takoma-Langley Crossroads Community Development Authority. He has been active in promoting the revitalization of the Crossroads area for more than a decade.
- Matthew Popkin
A University of Maryland student and Director of Sustainability at the Student Government Association.
- Eddie Pounds
A Baltimore attorney and active resident of Prince George's County.
- Jane Redicker
President of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce, representing the interests of member businesses along a major hub on the future Purple Line. Strong and dedicated advocate for assuring policies and programs - like the Purple Line - that encourage economic development and prosperity.
- Greg Sanders
Was inspired by his father and growing up in the Silver Spring area to become and avid transit user and advocate. His degrees are in Politcal Science and Computer Sicence with a Masters in International Relations. He works at the think tank CSIS where he anayzes and visualizes quantitative data.
- Reuben Snipper
A member of the City Council of the City of Takoma Park where he has lived for more than two decades.
- Brad Stewart
The Vice President and Provost of Montgomery College - Takoma Park/Silver Spring.
Ex-officio Board Members
Note: PLN has a policy that elected officials above the Municipal level can not serve on the Board of Directors. However, we want to work closely with our elected governments at both the County and State levels and created the ex-officio category to improve communication with these officials.
- George Leventhal (2007) is an at large member of the Montgomery County Council who was reelected to his 2nd term in 2006. He was instrumental in the formation of the Coalition to Build the Inner Purple Line in the Fall of 2002.
- Eric Olson (2003-2006); (ex officio, 2007), was the Director of the national Campaign Against Sprawl of the Sierra Club and a member of the City Council, City of College Park when he joined the board in 2003. He became a non voting ex officio member of the board after winning election to the Prince George's County Council in November, 2006.
- Tom Hucker (2007) has fought for the rights of working families in Maryland for years as Director of Progressive Maryland He was elected to the Legislature as a Delegate to the Maryland Assembly from District 20 in 2006.

- Kim Propeack(2003-08) is an attorney working for CASA of Maryland, Inc.

- Harry Sanders (2003-10; President, 2007-10), cofounder of the Action Committee for Transit.
- Andrew Scott (2006-07), Greater Washington Board of Trade
